The Anthills (2022) tells a story about my encounter with an anthill in nature and its recalling through anthill images found in an online, open-source library. It highlighted that it is not always possible to reproduce an original experience, but that images are a fundamental part of its remembrance.
I reflected on our digital society where a physical object is replaced with digital replica that can be easily copied, fabricated, and shared. The film was presented with an installation made of soil where a note indicated the absence of either the physical referent or depiction of the anthill. I used this textual means to stimulate the audience’s imagination and lead their attention toward absent objects.
This work was presented in the exhibition The New Current (2024, Brutus, Rotterdam, NL) and Future (2022, De Toekomst, Scheemda, NL).
