Sojung Lee (b.1995, Seoul) explores an idea of ‘placeholder’ in personal and social contexts to consider an image as a holder seizing temporality. Working with text, images, and objects, she highlights the function of a placeholder as an imperfect guide leading our consciousness throughout the past and present. Extending the general meaning of a placeholder through speculative stories, she questions how it engages with temporality, substitution, replacement, and (re)contextualization, and how it represents the contemporary visual culture.
